Falcons sign linebacker Tim Dobbins

Tim Dobbins

The Falcons traded one linebacker to Houston Wednesday night and signed a former Texan. Bill Shanks has more.

On the heels of Atlanta's trade of linebacker Akeem Dent to Houston, the Falcons signed free agent linebacker Tim Dobbins to a contract.

Dobbins was in Flowery Branch with former Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma in the past few days. The Falcons opted to not sign Vilma and instead went with Dobbins.

Dobbins has been with Houston for the past three seasons. He was released in October of last year after playing three games as a reserve. Dobbins has 22 starts in 110 games in the NFL. He was a fifth round pick of the Chargers in the 2006 draft. After four seasons in San Diego, Dobbins played the 2010 season with Miami.

The Falcons expect to give Dobbins a look at linebacker after the loss of Sean Weatherspoon last week to a season-ending injury.
