How they fit in: Matt Schaub

Matt Schaub

Atlanta continues to add new players to the franchise. Here is a look at how one of them fits into the Falcons' depth chart.

Because of Atlanta's quarterback situation, it seems that Matt Schaub might never see the field in 2004. And that's alright with head coach Jim Mora.

"Hopefully we won't see Schaub after the four preseason games are over," said Mora.

Injuries at quarterback forced the Falcons to play back up Doug Johnson too many games in 2004. After they released the former Florida star and picked up free agent pick up Ty Detmer, who is entering his 13th season in the NFL, the Birds felt like they still needed to have a quarterback to back up Vick in the future.

Enter Schaub.

The 6-5, 243-pound quarterback might be much slower than Vick but he is patent in the pocket and will take a hit just to get the ball to hit receivers. The question is if Schaub will ever get a chance to see the field in 2004. With Vick and Detmer in front of him he probably won't. That should make Mora happy.
