Falcons report: Notes, quotes, anecdotes

News from around Flowery Branch 06-01-2004

When the Falcons release CB Tyrone Williams after June 1, his cap charge will drop from about $2.3 million to about $600,000.

QB Matt Schaub played in a version of the West Coast offense in his first two seasons at the University of Virginia, so he's learning Atlanta's new offense quickly as new coordinator Greg Knapp installs it. But it's not all familiar. "There are a lot of different routes that I haven't seen so the progressions are different," Schaub said, "and the running game is very different from what I'm used to."

"You can't replace Emmitt's experience. He has so much knowledge. He's really kind of embraced this role. He's really helping Brett along. The greatest value in him will be on Tuesdays when we're game-planning and on Sundays when he's upstairs and he sees something going wrong. He'll know what to say, and when to say it. Big help on game days." -- coach Jim Mora, on how senior secondary coach Emmitt Thomas is working with secondary coach Brett Maxie.
