Green, who played with current Atlanta Falcons starting cornerback DeAngelo Hall at Virginia Tech, finished his career in Blacksburg 143 tackles and eight interceptions for 264 return yards. He returned two of the eight interceptions for touchdowns. Green is being projected anywhere from a second, third, or fourth round pick.
Atlanta drafted Hall with this first pick of the season in the 2004 NFL Draft. Hall is the starting left cornerback – on the other side Jason Webster is starting at right cornerback. Webster was under current Falcon head coach Jim Mora in the San Francisco secondary from 2000-2003.
Green’s best season at Virginia Tech was Hall’s final one. Green recorded 41 tackles and had three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns.
Green’s number one problem might be questions about an ACL he had before the 2002 season. That injury has brought up durability questions. He recovered that fall and returned with his best season at Virginia Tech.
His numbers might not have been as impressive, but Green’s ability to cover was more consistent his final season in Blacksburg.
Green has always had good ball skills in coverage, but another issue could be whispers about his character. Another drawback about Green, as with many corners coming out of college, is his ability to make tackles. He supposedly also gives a variety effort throughout games – he is not consistent in his effort according to reports.
Injuries seem to be slowing Eric Green down right now as he sat out of today’s practice with a hamstring injury. He likely will not play in Saturday’s Senior Bowl.
