Player: Roddy White – Wide receiver
Info: White, who was good enough to get an invite to the 2050 Senior Bowl, racked up over 3,000 yards in four seasons while at UAB. He’s a big wide receiver, but does not have a lot of height to go along with his bulk. He suffered a hamstring injury at the Senior Bowl and that limited his potential to gain traction coming into the 2005 draft.
There are two potential hang ups about White beyond his height. His route running ability has come into question and there have been questions about him playing at Alabama-Birmingham, a C-USA school that does not play a lot of big name talent during the season. The two criticisms could go hand-in-hand.
Why the Atlanta Falcons would be interested: White could be the player that eventually replaces Peerless Price should the franchise choose to release him next summer. He’ll be around in the second round when the Falcons’ have their second round choice. Also, because the receivers are rather deep in this draft, waiting for a player considered a “value” could make good financial since in the coming years.
Final Say: There is a real possibility that White could end up with the Falcons. If he is still around in the second round of the Draft expect the Falcons to roll the dice. Atlanta needs some wide receivers to step up in 2005.
Scout.com: "Terrific athlete with excellent size/speed numbers. Rounding out his game and a good long term prospect."
