Falcons' defense gears up for 2005

Count safety Keion Carpenter among those who are excited to enter a second season in coordinator Ed Donatell's one-gap, 4-3 scheme. Though he missed the entire 2004 season with a torn ACL, Carpenter attended every practice and as many film sessions as possible while rehabbing his knee.

"We're now no longer in 101," Carpenter said. "We're in 505. So as a unit and as a group, we're going to take our game to that next level. Whatever that level is, we don't know because we're continuing to work and get better to be the best secondary in this league. And we've got the guys who can do it."
