Akers struggles with early misses

ATLANTA - David Akers, a three-time Pro Bowl placekicker, uncharacteristically missed his first two field-goal attempts. Both were from 49 yards, but the indoor conditions usually would favor a dependable veteran like Akers.

Kevin McCadam had the best special teams hit when he tackled Roderick Hood following a 16-yard gain near the end of the first quarter. The Philadelphia offense followed by going three-and-out. ...

Hood avenged McCadam's hit, however, when he took down Atlanta punt returner Allen Rossum at the 11-yard line for no gain with 4:44 remaining in the third quarter. ...

Falcons rookie punter Michael Koenen boomed a 60-yard punt that benefited from a 20-yard roll down the middle of the field that Atlanta downed at the 21.
