FLOWERY BRANCH-The Atlanta Falcons have re-signed veteran safety Jamaal Fudge to a one-year contract, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting.

The Falcons claimed Fudge off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 2, 2008, the same day they acquired cornerback Domonique Foxworth, who signed with the Baltimore Ravens earlier today, in part because of his familiarity with Falcons head coach Mike Smith, who coached Fudge from 2006-07.

Fudge appeared in 11 games for the Falcons in 2008, and started the regular season finale in place of starter Lawyer Milloy. In that 31-27 overtime win over St. Louis, Fudge posted a career-high 10 tackles.

Fudge is expected to compete for the starting strong safety job during training camp, and will earn the veteran minimum salary for 2009.
