Denied! Three Draftees' Contracts Disallowed
Third-round cornerback Owens agreed to a contract that provided a $688,000 signing bonus and minimum salaries over that four-year period. Owens (5-10, 182) was the 90th overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft out of San Jose State, where he was All-Western Conference in 2008. During his career with the Spartans, Owens intercepted 13 passes, fourth on the school's all-time list.
Sixth-round pick Adkins signed recently, though terms of his contract are not known at this time. During his career at the University of Miami, Adkins appeared in 31 games, making 72 tackles (10 for loss), 5 quarterback sacks, and 1 interception. At 5-11 and 246 pounds, Adkins is undersized but opened some eyes with a sub-4.5 time in the 40 during his Pro Day at the "U". His speed could make him a valuable member of an already stellar Falcons' special teams unit.
