Biography:
Kevin Mathis UFA Falcons – The eight-year pro has been a starter and nickel back. It looked like that he was losing a step as he entered the 2004 season but in actuality, he seemed to have taken a big step up in his play. Mathis was expected to be at best the Falcons’ nickel cornerback but he wound up starting 13 games for the club mostly due to injuries to both of the two starters. Mathis may have played his best ball in years and did a very solid job in coverage showing to have good technique and footwork. He rarely was out of position and didn’t give up a lot of big plays which was a problem for him earlier in his career. Mathis has revived his career well enough that he shouldn’t have a problem finding a job as a nickel back.
