WAS: Redskins Sign Punter by Adam Caplan of ScoutNFLNetwork.com, November 6, 2009 at 10:12am ET
Sam Paulescu Profile
The Washington Redskins have signed P Sam Paulescu and have waived RB
Quinton Ganther, the team announced Friday. The move to sign another
punter became necessary because veteran Hunter Smith had a setback from a
previous groin injury.
The 25-year-old Paulescu has a career 41.7-yard average on 58 punts with the
Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos. In 2008, he averaged 41.8-yards per punt and
a 35.2 net average with the Cowboys. He also punted in one game with the Broncos
in 2007.
The 6-0, 190-pound, Paulescu attended Oregon State University in his final two
collegiate seasons after transferring from Fullerton College. He earned All
Pac-10 first team honors in 2005, becoming the first punter in school history to
do so.
Ganther signed with the Redskins on Oct. 20 and was inactive in one game. Even
with Ganther gone, the Redskins still have three running backs left on their
53-man roster.
