The Atlanta Falcons have announced the signing of veteran center Jeremy Newberry.
Falcons Sign Christopher Owens
Owens (5-10, 182) was the 90th overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft out of San Jose State, where he was All-Western Conference in 2008. During his career with the Spartans, Owens intercepted 13 passes, fourth on the school's all-time list.
Owens joins fifth round cornerback William Middleton, fifth round offensive tackle Garrett Reynolds, and seventh round defensive tackle Vance Walker as the Falcons' draft choices who have signed contracts.
Financial terms of Owens' contract were not disclosed.
In addition to signing Owens, the Falcons announced that they have released undrafted rookie punter Robbie Dehaze (Northern Arizona) and third-year offensive tackle Renardo Foster, who hasn't played since injuring his knee in 2007, his rookie season. Foster spent the entire 2008 season on the physically unable to perform list.
Today's moves leaves the Falcons with 79 players signed to their active roster, one shy of the 80-player limit.
