Falcons Sign WR Dicky Lyons

The Atlanta Falcons sign undrafted wide receiver Dicky Lyons.

According to his agent, the Atlanta Falcons have signed undrafted rookie wide receiver Dicky Lyons to a two-year deal.

The son of former University of Kentucky and New Orleans Saints wide receiver Dicky Lyons Sr., Lyons Jr. (5-10, 192) caught 141 passes for 1,752 yards and 18 touchdowns during his 39-game career at the University of Kentucky.

Lyons also averaged 9.5 yards per punt return and 23.6 yards per kick return during his Wildcat career.

Suspended by head coach Rich Brooks for violating team rules following his freshman season, Lyons was a medical red-shirt (hamstring) as a sophomore. The Metairie, La. native bounce back from both setbacks and in 2006, Lyons was named Kentucky's Most Improved Offensive Player by the coaching staff, and in 2007, was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Last year, Lyons had settled into his role as a team leader and main offensive weapon. However, his college career would come to an end after tearing two ligaments (PCL,MCL) in his right knee against South Carolina. Despite appearing in just six games, Lyons still led the Wildcats in receptions (33) and receiving yards (264).

Lyons' signing could be an indicator that the team is bracing for a lengthy holdout from Pro Bowl receiver Roddy White.
